Excursion around Montetiffi, known for the production, since 1500, of the famous terracotta testo (ancestor of the baking tin for piadina). Slow walk in river Uso’s valley, zone declared as “of notable public interest” by the Cultural and Environmental Heritage Ministry in 1996.
The relics of facilities linked to the previous human activities will be admired in this territory located between the possessions of Malatestas, Montefeltros, Papal State, Tuscany Grand Duchy and San Marino Republic.
Arrival in the village Montetiffi, where the church, built in stone tanning and one of the most important Romanic monuments in Romagna, will be visited. Stop at an excellent local tavern for lunch or for a tasting. Then, on towards the western valley, where we will visit a factory that grows ancient wheat and uses it to realize bakery products. The owners will explain the main production steps and will offer some of their creations (also available for sale). Not far, the house of the only artisans who still produce the testo, of which they will show the most important processing steps.
Return in the late afternoon.
